The Best Engagement Session Locations
One of my favorite parts of being a wedding photographer in Sioux Falls is getting to shoot engagement sessions. They’re the perfect way to slow things down before the wedding, spend some time together, and get comfortable in front of the camera. Plus, they’re a chance to create photos that actually feel like you.
There are plenty of great spots for engagement photos around South Dakota and southwest Minnesota — downtown Sioux Falls for that urban feel, the open prairies for big sky sunset shots, or even Falls Park for something classic. But honestly? My favorite location is always somewhere that means something to you.
Some of my most memorable sessions have been on family farms, in backyards, or down the gravel roads couples grew up driving together. There’s something about being in a familiar place that brings out those authentic smiles and relaxed moments. If it’s a spot where you made your first memories as a couple — even better.

The Midwest has some incredible wide-open spaces. Sunset on a dirt road with nothing but sky behind you? That’s engagement session magic.
Good Earth State Park – Sioux Falls, SD
One of my favorite places for golden hour photos. The tall prairie grass and wide-open sky make for dreamy sunset shots.
Palisades State Park – Garretson, SD
If you want a little more adventure, Palisades delivers with its dramatic cliffs and rock formations along Split Rock Creek. Perfect for couples who love the outdoors.
Downtown Sioux Falls + Small-Town Main Streets
